DIY Picture Frames

Its my beautiful friends Lily and Alexia's birthdays this week and I was stuck on getting them a present. I walked into my favourite stationary shop Typo and found these picture frames and thought they were a great gift for them to put a photo in. I then saw these cute 3D paper embellishments and I had the idea to put them in the frame to make a cute picture. Sorry about the title of the post. They aren't really DIY!

As you can see the embellishments are attached to a plastic sheet. I cut the plastic sheet around the shapes so I could work out how to layout the embellishments on the back board of the frame.

At the back of each embellishment there is a sticky tab. When I was happy with the layout I took the embellishments off the plastic sheet and stuck them on the back board of the frame. I pressed the embellishments down so they are secure.

Once they are stuck on, I bent the papers out to add effect.

Then place in the frame. You can place this on a self or on a wall like I have done. A cute little present made with love!

Salted Caramel Macarons

I went away for the long weekend and my family friend bought Adriano Zumbo's salted caramel macron mix. It was my first time to make macarons and they ended up turning out decent.

This mixture is very easy and simple to make and you just need to follow the instructions on the box.
The mix came with a circle template. On baking paper draw circles on the baking paper using the template. This is also explained on the box.

I baked two trays of the macaron shells. As you can see in the photo this tray turned out, but not so much the other one!

Pipe the filling on the flat side of the shell. Make sure you pipe it evenly on the shell. to do this pipe in the middle of the shell. Sorry about this photo, its not a very good example.

Place another shell on the other and press gently. And there you are done! This mixture makes around 20 macarons.
I would definitely recommended this mixture for making macarons for the first time. There are also other flavours available from Adriano Zumbo which are available here! .

Short Bread Love

Hello everybody! Sorry I have been so slack on my blog lately but will definitely be posting a lot more from now on.
So the other day I decided to make short bread biscuits. This is a family favourite and they are perfect for every occasion. I came across this recipe last year and love it because it is simple and so easy.

Ingredients:
250 grams butter
1 egg beaten
1/2 teapspoon vanilla essence
1/2 cup caster sugar
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1/2 plain flour

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180˚c
2. Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy
3. Gradually add the egg
4. Add vanilla essence
5. Sift flours in gradually and fold in to the butter mixture
3. Place dough in fridge for 10 minutes
4. Roll out dough about 1.5cm thick and cut into desired shapes.
5. Place on baking tray and bake for 15 minutes

As you can see I have used various shapes to cut out my biscuits. I also printed a pattern in some biscuits with a pattern cutter.

This recipe makes about 30-35 biscuits, it depends on how big the biscuits are. I would suggest halving the recipe if you don't want to make many biscuits  Once they have cooled, you can add various thing to your biscuits to make them extra yummy!

Adding jam in the middle of two biscuits. And then dipping half the biscuit in melted chocolate and then dipping the chocolate in coconut or sprinkles. I also dipped a single biscuit in chocolate and coconut.
Add icing sugar to the rest of the biscuits
Enjoy!
